John Wycliffe
John Wycliffe lived 200 years before the Protestant Reformation, but his beliefs were a lot like the beliefs and teachings of Martin Luther. John was born in the 1300s and he would criticize false teachings in the church. in 1382 John translated the first English Bible in nearly 1,000 years.
John Wycliffe's teachings and beliefs were well known. Wycliffe would send out preachers, or missionaries, called Lollards out and about through out England to preach his teachings, and show them his beliefs. When the church found out about Wycliffe's doings, the Lollards were told to stop, he lost his teaching job at Oxford, and he was excommunicated from the church. 44 years after losing his job, Wycliffe passed away. The church had his remains burned, to show any of his followers that his teachings were wrong and that this may be a consequence.
