Martin Luther (1483 - 1546)
Martin Luther was expected to become a lawyer by his friends and family. But, instead of continuing his studies as a lawyer, he decided to become a monk. Martin Luther joined the Augustinian monastery in Erfurt in 1505. He took his vow to be a monk one year later in 1506. Luther's work was very hard. Being a monk in that time consisted of a lot of fasting, prayer, and work. His days started at 3 o'clock in the morning with the beginning prayers, because of this early start Luther built a strong relationship with god and applied the bible to different parts of his life and himself. By 1507 Luther was an ordained priest and started studying Theology at the University of Erfurt.
Martin Luther got his doctorate in Theology in 1512 and then went on to teach theology as a professor at the University of Wittenberg. His intentions were to teach and spread the understanding of religion, not to start a revolution. Luther's teaching and views were the start of the Reformation.
